Lead Power Electronics Engineer

Job Description JOB SUMMARY The Lead/Senior Power Electronics Engineer is responsible for leading the design and development of advanced power electronics systems, including AC/DC, DC/AC, and DC/DC converters, motor drives, and grid-connected inverters. This role encompasses circuit and schematic design, component selection, guiding PCB layout, and system validation. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and the ability to work collaboratively across cross-functional teams to deliver innovative and cost-effective solutions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Lead the development and implementation of power electronics architectures while ensuring compliance with applicable standards. Collaborate with electrical engineers, system architects, and project managers to align designs with product specifications and project timelines. Design and validate power conversion systems, including schematic design, component selection, and providing guidance for PCB layout. Test, debug, and validate hardware designs, ensuring adherence to performance and reliability standards. Develop and execute test plans and specifications for new designs and prototypes. Monitor and improve the quality of product delivery, schedules, and performance metrics. Stay updated with the latest power electronics technologies, materials, and industry trends to deliver innovative designs. Provide technical input to identify and mitigate project risks, ensuring project milestones and deliverables are met. Support manufacturing by designing and implementing test benches, resolving production issues, and collaborating with vendors. Document designs, test results, and system updates to ensure clear communication and knowledge sharing within the team. JOB QUALIFICATIONS TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Strong background in power electronics design, including AC/DC, DC/DC, and DC/AC conversion systems, motor drives and grid-connected inverters. Proficiency in schematic capture and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB, Simulink, Cadence, Altium). Experience with hardware debugging, testing, and validation, including the use of test equipment such as oscilloscopes and power analyzers. Familiarity with power topologies (e.g., full-bridge, flyback, LLC resonant converters) and control algorithms for power systems. Working knowledge of thermal management and EMI/EMC considerations in power electronics. NON-TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers. Ability to work independently and lead technical discussions effectively. Skilled in risk assessment and project milestone development for hardware systems. A creative, self-motivated individual with a strong sense of responsibility and teamwork. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution. A minimum of 8 years of experience in power electronics design, development, and validation. Proven track record of successful technical leadership in the field of power electronics. Experience in writing specifications, test plans, and design documentation.
