Server Firmware Architect - BMC/BIOS (J2416949)
Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled Server Firmware Architect to lead firmware architecture concept work for next-generation server platforms. This role focuses primarily on OpenBMC strategy, feature definition, and platform integration during the early concept and RFQ/RFI phases. The ideal candidate will possess deep hands-on experience with OpenBMC design and architecture. Experience in BIOS/UEFI is a strong plus. You will collaborate closely with the Taiwan-based Architecture team and US counterparts (e.g., CTO, BU, Marketing) to define firmware architecture strategies and requirements aligned with server platform goals.
Key Responsibilities ‧ Lead the definition of firmware architecture based on OpenBMC for next-generation server platforms. ‧ Define firmware feature sets, interfaces, platform integration points, and lifecycle management strategies. ‧ Coordinate with EE/System/Power/BIOS/ME architects to ensure cohesive platform-level firmware design. ‧ Evaluate technical feasibility and propose architecture trade-offs based on customer use cases and business goals. ‧ Support RFQ and RFI activities by preparing BMC-related architecture proposals, block diagrams, firmware feature matrices, and resource estimations. ‧ Translate customer feature lists and use cases into scalable OpenBMC architecture plans and customization scopes. ‧ Identify reuse opportunities across server platforms to reduce time-to-market and development cost. ‧ Stay current on OpenBMC ecosystem developments, industry standards (e.g., PLDM, Redfish), and community adoption trends. ‧ Work closely with silicon vendors (e.g., ASPEED, Nuvoton) and ODM partners on architecture planning and platform enablement. ‧ Assess BIOS interactions and propose harmonized architecture plans if BIOS responsibilities overlap (bonus qualification). ‧ Define the structure and ownership model of firmware components (e.g., host interface, sensors, fan control, SEL, IPMI/Redfish services). ‧ Plan system-level boot and power-on flows and their dependency on platform HW/FW readiness. ‧ Define early bring-up strategy and support feasibility studies during concept evaluation. ‧ Create and maintain firmware architecture decks, interface definitions, and OpenBMC feature maps. ‧ Participate in system-level design reviews and align FW architecture with platform strategy. ‧ Capture lessons learned and drive improvement in front-end architecture activities.
